But the romance is not the main focus, which I don’t mind at all. Speaking of Patrick and Jono, I love those two together. Well, at least he has Jono to take care of him, right? But of course, Hailey is all about making his life as difficult as possible… And this series is supposed to have seven books, all focused on him and Jono… I’m having a really hard time dealing with what’s happened to Patrick so far, future books are going to kill me. Patrick is probably my favourite characters out of all the ones she’s written (including everyone from the Metahumans series) and I can’t stand bad things happening to him.

And since I know it too, I’m really afraid of what’s going to happen. If you’re familiar with Hailey’s books, you know how much she loves to torture her characters, sometimes literally. One that was very well-written, had some great character moments, introduced more characters, mythical and otherwise, and messed with everyone’s emotions. I’m sure they do, but this book still felt like a bridge book. It’s more a case that Patrick’s working which involves kidnapped werewolves, evil vampires and gods who make Patrick’s life miserable.Īnd the reason I’m not giving the book five stars is that I’m not entirely sure how a lot of the events of this book correlate with big picture, which is defeating Ethan. Ethan’s likely still planning shit, and it’s guaranteed to suck, but he’s not a focus here. The Dominion sect, for example, is all but absent. And while this book follows most of the same characters, its story is so different. Plus him meeting another group of people he could maybe trust and just the sheer amount of pressure he was under… man, I was exhausted just reading about it. It involved his soul debt, his past, his father and his sister. The first book was quite a personal story for Patrick. I’m currently rereading the series, slowly, so I’ll post them within the next couple months. And for the most part, the book lived up to them.īefore I start the review, I know I’ve only reviewed the first Metahumans book but I binged the other four and there were a lot of emotions, so I didn’t get a change to review them.

I loved the book and, after reading and loving the author’s Metahumans series, I had some high expectation. Wanted to specify since that’s usually not the case with most adult paranormal books.Ī Ferry of Bones and Goldwas one of the biggest surprises of last year for me. Note: This book cannot be read as a standalone. Genre: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance (kind of), LGBT
